SOSCN Conference 2010 - FUTURE CHANGES

Out of school care is facing a number of challenges in the coming years from changes to funding, legislation, regulation and not least an economic downturn- this conference is aimed at providing the sector with accurate guidance and information about some of these developments. The significance of these changes is recognised by the Scottish Government and we are pleased that Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and Early Years will be in attendance.

One of the aims of this conference is to provide out of school care managers with clear information about the Level 9 Childhood Practice Award and the pathways to achieving this qualification- input will be provided from the SSSC, universities currently providing the BA in Childhood Practice as well as out of school managers who have already successfully completed the qualification.

In addition to changes in qualification requirements for lead practitioners, as of April 2011, a new regulatory body, SCISWIS, will be replacing the Care Commission- keynote presentations from the Care Commission and Scottish Government will provide information as to what this will mean in practical terms to out of school care services. The role, and feasability, of peripatetic managers will also be covered in discussions.

A variety of practical workshops will be delivered by the Scottish Social Services Council- SSSC's internet-based work portal; RespectMe- anti-bullying policy and practice in out of school care; Together (Scottish Alliance for Children's Rights)- state of children's rights in Scotland;Big Lottery Fund- Investing in Communities funding. The universities of Dundee, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and West of Scotland, as well as the Open University will also lead discussion and information sessions about qualifications.
